Make boating safer!
Support our mission by contributing today.
Invest in the Future of Boating Education
The Educational Reserve (EdRes) is a special fund managed by past Educational Officers of America’s Boating Club of Great South Bay. Its mission is simple but vital:
to support, expand, and protect boating education and safety for the next generation of boaters on Long Island and beyond.
Your donation helps make sure that every boater, from first-time students to seasoned captains, has access to the best training, safety programs, and community learning experiences available.
What the Educational Reserve Supports
Every dollar you give goes directly toward education, safety, and outreach. Examples of projects include:
Free Public Boating Classes
Offering no-cost boating safety courses to youth organizations such as the Boy Scouts, Sea Scouts, and local community groups—helping introduce the next generation to safe and responsible boating.
Educational Equipment and Tools
Purchasing essential teaching materials such as projectors, laptops, screens, and navigation tools that allow our volunteer instructors to deliver engaging, modern, and effective lessons.
Community Safety Seminars
Hosting open-to-the-public safety talks and demonstrations covering topics like emergency preparedness, weather awareness, and life-jacket use.
Youth and Continuing Education Support
Providing scholarships or course fee assistance to students and new boaters seeking to earn their certifications or advance their boating knowledge.
Outreach and Awareness Programs
Organizing local events, dock days, and hands-on clinics that connect experienced members with the boating public to share knowledge and promote safety across our waters.

How the Fund Works
The Educational Reserve operates as a self-sustaining, transparent committee within America’s Boating Club of Great South Bay.
All funds are kept separate from general operations and used solely for educational purposes.
Funding proposals are reviewed by a committee of experienced past Educational Officers who ensure every project aligns with our mission and delivers measurable impact.
Decisions are made through structured review, open discussion, and voting process to maintain fairness and accountability.
Why Donate
Your contribution directly supports programs that save lives, build skills, and keep our boating traditions strong. The life you save may be your own, because educated boaters are safer boaters.
Every donation, big or small, strengthens Great South Bay’s ability to educate boaters and foster safer waterways.
You may also make a memorial donation to honor a loved one’s legacy, or a major gift that may qualify for naming recognition within the Educational Reserve.
Transparency and Accountability
All Educational Reserve funds are held under the financial management of Great South Bay’s Treasurer, with annual reports presented to members.
100% of Your Donation Supports Education and Safety
All administrative costs are covered by America’s Boating Club of Great South Bay, so every dollar you contribute goes directly toward educational programs, boating safety initiatives, and community outreach.
Your donation is fully tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law.
