Land Based Events 〰️

America’s Boating Club of Great South Bay isn’t just about summer days on the water. Our members enjoy a full calendar of land-based activities throughout the year. Many members who have sold their boats remain active and connected through these events.

📅 Monthly Meetings

From January through June, and again September through November, we host general membership meetings. These gatherings feature Squadron updates, introductions of new members, and guest speakers covering boating-related topics. Meetings are often catered at a nominal fee, and while attendance is encouraged, there are no mandatory meeting requirements—come when you can, stay connected, and enjoy the fellowship.

🎩 Annual Change of Watch Dinner Dance

The Change of Watch is one of our most formal traditions. Each year we celebrate the Squadron’s anniversary and welcome our new bridge officers with a black-tie dinner dance. Held at a venue chosen by the incoming Commander, the evening features top-shelf open bar, fine dining, and dancing. While all District 3 members are invited, the event is primarily attended by our Squadron family.

🦺 Safe Boating Week – “Ready, Set, Wear It!”

As part of National Safe Boating Week, we participate in the worldwide Life Jacket World Record Day. Thousands of participants across the globe wear and inflate life jackets to raise awareness of boating safety. Our Squadron gathers at a marina, waterfront restaurant, or maritime museum for a group photo, followed by lunch together.

📝 Spring & Fall Conferences

District 3 hosts two conferences each year, uniting members from across Long Island.

  • Spring Conference: Primarily a social gathering and district-wide update.

  • Fall Conference: Education-focused, offering free seminars on boating topics. The District Change of Watch is also held at the Fall Conference, followed by a dinner dance.

🎄 Holiday Party

We close the year with our Holiday Party, featuring cocktails, a formal sit-down dinner, music, and dancing. Each venue is chosen by the Commander and Administrative Officer, ensuring variety from year to year. In the spirit of giving, we ask guests to bring a donation for Toys for Tots, making this festive evening both joyful and meaningful.
